In these cases as always, lymph nodes are first sampled to be certain they have no cancer. If nodes are
positive, the prostatectomy is not done. Interstitial implants using radioactive palladium have also been used.
• Treatment for Palliation Radiation therapy to the prostate can reduce the size of the tumor , but long-term
effects in prolonging life are not well documented. This therapy can reduce obstructions and make urination
easier.
A transurethral prostatectomy (TURP) will also help urination and is less burdensome than radiation
therapy. But incontinence is more likely after if radiation therapy has been given, if cancer has spread to the
urinary control zone, the urethral sphincter .
Hormonal therapy is the mainstay of palliative therapy for prostate cancer.
Five-Year Survival 50 to 55 percent for C-1, 40 to 45 percent for C-2
Investigational Same as Stage A-2.
